About Swedish Medical Center, Seattle
The Swedish Medical Center (SMC) ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency Program offers six (6) PGY1 resident positions and one (1) PGY-2 Critical Care position (see below). The purpose of SMC’s PGY1 Residency Program is to prepare resident pharmacists for hospital and ambulatory clinical positions, adjunct faculty positions, teaching and precepting positions, clinical administrative projects and/or further PGY2 training in a focused area of practice. Experiences are uniquely designed to suit the individual need and interests of the resident.
Core PGY-1 resident rotations include cardiac, critical, medical, neonatal, neurology, pediatric, and surgical intensive care medicines; ambulatory care; general medicine; inpatient and outpatient oncology; kidney, liver, pancreas, and stem cell transplantation; general pediatrics; obstetrics; special care nursery; family practice; anticoagulation clinic; antimicrobial stewardship; and pharmacy practice administration. The flexible curriculum also provides the resident with the opportunity to be involved in planning, implementing and evaluating new rotations and services.
*** New PGY-2 Critical Care Residency Program ***
Swedish Med...ical Center is starting a new PGY-2 Critical Care Residency Program, with one (1) resident beginning July 2020. We are currently in pre-candidate status, with ASHP. The PGY-2 resident will have 6x six week required learning experiences (MICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, Cardiac ICU, Pediatric ICU and Emergency Department). There will be elective rotation options (Neuro/Cardiac Emergency Department, Neonatal ICU, Community MICU/SICU and Community Emergency Department). The PGY-2 resident will also do a longitudinal research project, to be presented at Western States Residency Conference, along with smaller short-term projects related to critical care. The staffing requirement will be every other weekend and staff will be covering a clinical shift.
Requirements for application are completion of PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency, Washington state licensure or eligible for licensure, 3 letters of recommendation, a copy of candidate CV and a letter of intent. Also need to be available for on-site interview. We will be participating in National Match.
