About University of Cincinnati Medical Center
The PGY1 residency at the UC Medical Center (UCMC)
is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. It is a 12-month, structured training program designed to develop skills and competence in providing pharmaceutical care.Your program focus may vary in structure and area of emphasis based on your level of knowledge, skills and interest. We realize one size does not fit all. That’s why our
residency program offers elective rotations, allowing you to further pursue interests related to your unique career objectives. The UC Medical Center PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is comprised of four major elements:
• Clinical and administrative practice rotations
• Completion of a major research project
• Teaching activities
• Pharmacy practice
One-month rotations are required in internal medicine, general surgery, critical care, drug information/drug use policy development and pharmacy practice management. Selective rotations are available in ambulatory care, emergency medicine, oncology and cardiology. The resident must complete two of the four selective rotations. Three months of elective rotations permit the resident to expand abilities and skills in other areas of interes...t. The broad scope of pharmacy practice services offered provides a high degree of flexibility to pursue individual goals. Research projects are presented at the Great Lakes Residency Conference and are prepared in a manner suitable for publication.
