About Upstate University Hospital Pharmacy Residency Programs
About the Programs
Post Graduate Years I and 2
SUNY Upstate Medical University, one of 140 academic medical centers in the United States, attracts outstanding Doctor of Pharmacy graduates from across the nation. Each pharmacy residency program draws upon the resources of our academic medical center—including a teaching hospital, four health related colleges (the College of Medicine, the College of Graduate Studies, the College of Health Professions and the College of Nursing), our research enterprise and hundreds of specialty services. Each program, accredited by (or in pre-candidate status with) the American Society of Health Systems (ASHP), offers pharmacy residents the opportunity to interact with many other disciplines.
Residents are given training options within the scope of excellent pharmacy practice to pursue their interests and refine their knowledge and skills. Each resident will have the opportunity to customize a training plan based on his/her area of interest.
The strength of our programs lies with the commitment of the faculty to patient care. Our faculty continually works with community partners to improve patient medication reconciliation and management.

Upstate University Health System
The Upstate University Health System includes Upstate University Hospital; Downtown and Community Campus; Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, the Upstate Cancer Center and numerous satellite sites. As with many teaching hospitals and health systems, University Hospital and its associated outpatient clinics serve a diverse population that includes adult, pediatric and medically compromised patients.
The Pharmacy: A Modern Facility
Located in Upstate University Hospital, the pharmacy is design-driven by a high degree of computerization for medication ordering, distribution and inventory management. Vertical carousels provide state-of-the-art technology for inventory and allow bar coding for individual medications and inventory tracking for just-in-time delivery.
The facility also houses pharmacy offices, a conference room and three certified clean rooms. Laptop computers facilitate order review and clinical documentation within a fully integrated CPOE system, which increases pharmacist participation in multi-disciplinary rounds.
