Psychiatric pharmacy experiences include long-term and acute forensic inpatient, outpatient, adult acute care, child and adolescents, geriatrics, developmental disabilities, pain management, substance abuse, and administration. The resident will spend extensive time participating in multidisciplinary treatment teams, providing patient medication education groups, and academic teaching (psychiatry residents, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, physician assistant students, medical students, and pharmacy students). Throughout the residency year, the resident will also serve on the following committees/panels: Trauma Specific Therapy Consultation Team, State Psychopharmacology Panel, Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) Psychopharmacology Panel, Clozapine Review Committee, Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP), and P&T Committee.

Additionally, there will be an opportunity for the resident to have a longitudinal learning experience that provides the necessary skills to implement a pharmacy managed laboratory that performs hematology monitoring for clozapine treated patients. This experience focuses on the clinical and operational aspects of managing a clozapine laboratory and clinic. After successful completion of this learning experience, the resident will meet the CLIA qualifications to serve as a director or technical consultant of a non-waived laboratory performing moderate complexity testing.

Upon completion of this residency program, the resident will be prepared to enter clinical practice in a variety of psychiatric specialty settings and possess competencies that enable attainment of board certification.
