About CHI St. Joseph Health PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in conjunction with Texas A&M University Rangel College of Pharmacy promotes clinical advancement of pharmacy practice and patient care through the support of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patient with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The post graduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency program at CHI St. Joseph Health is affiliated with Texas A&M University Rangel College of Pharmacy and has pre-candidate accreditation status by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The program currently offers 3 resident positions in a 12-month postgraduate curriculum that provides training opportunities to strengthen skills in patient care; advancing pharmacy practice and improving patient outcomes; leadership and management; and teaching, education, and dissemination of knowledge.
Core rotations include internal medicine, critical care, trauma/s...urgery, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, cardiac care, and pharmacy administration. The residency includes longitudinal experiences in medication safety, antimicrobial stewardship, pain management, transition of care, formulary management, practice leadership, and leadership development. Residents have the opportunity to earn a engage in teaching and preceptorship of students during selected rotations.
