Walgreens Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program (PGY1), Jackson, Mississippi
Walgreens Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program is a postgraduate training opportunity for pharmacists that aims to develop advanced community retail pharmacists who will implement and manage services to help patients get, stay, and live well. Residents will provide direct patient care to a variety of patient populations, engage in community outreach, collaborate with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes, and incorporate patient care activities into daily workflow.
This PGY1 residency experience takes place at multiple Walgreens pharmacies throughout the greater Jackson, Mississippi area. These varying locations offer the resident the opportunity to practice in focused areas of patient care services such as specialty pharmacy, medication management, immunizations, travel health, clinical practice management, and more. The resident will further develop his/her skills and knowledge while working with pharmacist leaders within community pharmacy practice.
This PGY1 community-based pharmacy residency conducted by Walgreens is accredited with the American Society of Hea...lth-System Pharmacists in association with the American Pharmacists Association. Graduates from this program will be leaders in the pharmacy community and play an active role in advancing community pharmacy practice.
Residency Activities
• Develop collaborative programs to improve patient adherence and outcomes
• Provide medication management services and patient counseling across multiple patient populations
• Deliver preventative health services including routine immunizations, off-site immunization clinics, and health
coaching consultations
• Provide travel health consultations and administer travel-related vaccines
• Develop pharmacy practice management skills
• Provide services for patients taking specialty medications for HIV, Hep C, and other conditions
• Be responsible for patient-centered dispensing at a local Walgreens
• Participate in community outreach
• Assist as a preceptor for student pharmacists
• Design and conduct a practice-based research project
• Present research project findings at professional conferences
• Complete teaching and learning certificate program, work in Walgreen’s corporate clinical office, and/or travel abroad for international pharmacy experience (all are optional electives within the program)

Candidate Requirements
• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Pharmacy Education
• Completed online application at www.jobs.walgreens.com
• Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
• Curriculum vitae
• Three professional letters of recommendation
• Official university transcripts
• Letter of intent explaining why you are pursuing a community-based pharmacy residency and what you hope to gain from the residency program
• On-site interview (upon invitation)
• Registered with the National Matching Service (NMS)
• Mississippi pharmacist license within 90 days of the start of the residency program
Application Process
A completed application and all accompanying materials must be submitted no later than January 5, 2021 for candidates to be considered for the program.
