About Parkview Health PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency
Parkview Health is located in Fort Wayne, IN. Our primary site is Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC) which is a community, not-for-profit hospital. With over 440 acute care beds, PRMC is the largest hospital in our health system. It supports a level II adult and pediatric trauma centers, an accredited pain center and a certified primary stroke center. PRMC also features specialty centers for orthopedics, women's and children's health, cancer, and cardiovascular care.
Parkview Health has had tremendous growth in the ambulatory care setting. Ambulatory care pharmacists practice within a variety of clinic settings including primary care, cardiology, oncology, anticoagulation, population health, and specialty clinics. Many of our ambulatory care pharmacists have the opportunity to manage chronic diseases via collaborative practice agreements. As part of this growth, Parkview Health added a PGY2 ambulatory care pharmacy residency, currently in candidate status with ASHP.
We will be recruiting for 5 PGY1 residents and 1 PGY2 Ambulatory Care resident.
Parkview Health’s PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to develop the resident into an independent, competent, confide...nt, and compassionate practitioner with the ability to provide excellent patient care in a variety of practice environments. Residents will develop a core skill set in pharmacotherapy evaluation and management, patient interaction, communication, team building, and time management. The program will assist residents in developing their leadership skills to fulfill their practice responsibilities and provide care in a technologically advanced environment. Throughout the year, residents will work to develop an effective method of self-evaluation. Residents will learn to balance the demands of pharmacy practice, family, and personal growth while staying committed to life-long learning.
The required rotations include: Orientation, Adult Internal Medicine & Surgery (6 weeks in length), Cardiology & Coronary Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care, and Focused Internal Medicine (1 week in length). Our longitudinal rotations include: Anticoagulation Therapy Unit, Practice Management, and Staffing. We offer 19 electives: Academia Administration, Ambulatory Cardiology, Clinical Informatics, Drug Information, Emergency Medicine, Falls Prevention Clinic (2 days per week for 10 weeks), Infectious Disease, Investigational Drug Services, Medical Intensive Care Unit, Medication Safety, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Neurology, Inpatient Oncology, Ambulatory Oncology, Pain & Palliative Care, Population Health, Primary Care Clinics, and Pediatrics & Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program at Parkview Health is designed to develop the resident into an independent, competent, confident and compassionate practitioner with the ability to provide excellent patient care in the ambulatory setting. This resident will develop a core skill set in chronic disease state management, patient interaction, communication, practice management, team building and time management. The program will assist residents in developing their precepting skills and will integrate precepting into various learning experiences.
The required rotations include: orientation and primary care (Indiana). The required longitudinal rotation experiences include: Administration, Anticoagulation Therapy Unit, Diabetes Management, Heart Failure Clinic, Practice Management, Research, and Staffing. We offer 8 electives: Ambulatory Cardiology, Ambulatory Medication Safety, Ambulatory Oncology (10 weeks), Falls Prevention Clinic (2 days per week for 10 weeks), Family Medicine Center, Population Health, Primary Care (Ohio), Specialty Pharmacy
