About Kern Medical
Kern Medical’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency is designed to provide a solid foundation in acute and ambulatory pharmaceutical care, drug policy development, and professional leadership.
Core rotations include experience in Internal Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Hospital Practice, Hospital Administration, and Advanced Internal Medicine. Elective rotations include Oncology, Advanced Ambulatory Care in Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMHs), and Emergency Medicine.
The resident receives experience in comprehensive pharmacy services and is granted prescribing privileges under physician-driven protocols in various areas including inpatient and ambulatory care. The resident also gains experience in Adverse Drug Reaction-Med Error reporting; pharmacokinetic service; a fully computerized pharmacy with scan technology and Pyxis; pharmacist-run clinics such as diabetes, anticoagulation, hypertension, HIV and pharmacotherapy; as well as teaching responsibilities for pharmacy students and medical residents.
Providing excellent care for our patients through medication management is our goal. We currently employ seven residency-trained clinical pharmacists, most... of whom hold multiple board certifications (including AAHIVP, BCPS, BCACP, BCOP, BCPPS, CGP, CDE, and BC-ADM), who will serve as your preceptors during your clinical rotations. These clinical pharmacists are 100-percent dedicated to clinical services and education of pharmacy residents, students and staff, as well as medical and nursing staff. Kern Medical, with its vast resources of clinical material and research opportunities, provides comprehensive academic training to its pharmacy residents.
