About University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy
PittPharmacy is the premier pharmacy research institution in Pennsylvania and was awarded $12.8 million in funded
research during 2016. PittPharmacy’s mission is to be “providing the innovators and the discoveries to solve the
complex medication?based problems of today and tomorrow.” Our faculty lead teams discovering new drug
entities, developing new drug delivery systems, and finding more effective ways for pharmacists to deliver patient
care. In the recent rankings, the School of Pharmacy was ranked ninth in National Institutes of Health funding
among 125 Pharma?Granting institutions and 14th by U.S. News and World Report. Faculty members receive grants
from NIH, National Science Foundation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the U.S. Department of
Defense, industry, and other foundations and associations.
PittPharmacy has a long history of partnering with our community to lead, create, and implement patient?centered
research. In 2016, these efforts culminated in the formation of the Community Leadership & Innovation in
Practice (CLIP) Center. The CLIP Center’s mission is to advance pharmacy practice and the health of people in our
communities through d...iscovery, innovation, training, implementation, and collaboration with our partners and
patients. Our 15 faculty and staff members in the CLIP Center are national leaders in patient?focused research in
community pharmacy settings. We have established over 30 partnerships with chain and independent pharmacies, physician office practices, underserved clinics, community and professional organizations, and corporations to advance our mission. Among our “firsts,” the CLIP Center was the first (1) to establish a community pharmacy research fellowship program, (2) to implement a nationwide community pharmacy faculty research training program ? the NACDS Foundation Faculty Scholars Program; (3) to establish a statewide community pharmacy residency research training and mentorship program; and (4) to create a standardized training program for our state’s Community Pharmacy Enhanced Service Network, the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Care Network.
