Residency Showcase Program Listings

The Inova Pharmacy Plus PGY1 Community Residency provides clinical and administrative training for pharmacists suitable for entry into an advanced patient care role as a community or ambulatory care pharmacist or matriculation into a PGY2 residency program. We are a new program (currently in candidate status with ASHP) and are excited to offer the opportunity for our resident to help shape our program.  Our resident will primarily work at our Inova Schar Cancer Institute specialty pharmacy. At Schar, they will staff, counsel patients, educate pharmacy and other team members about new medications and therapies, develop specific patient care programs and disease state management programs based on current need and the resident's interests. The resident will also monitor and manage patients in our Patient Assistance Program oral chemotherapy program. Numerous  opportunities exist for the resident to gain management experience and to initiate quality improvement projects and new business projects working with the pharmacy managers and the Director of Retail and Specialty Pharmacy. The resident will also staff at the Inova Fairfax Heart and Vascular Institute Pharmacy Plus location. A Diabetes Management rotation is available at our Fair Oaks Hospital Pharmacy Plus location. The resident will also have the opportunity to manage ambulatory patients with a variety of chronic disease states, with a focus on diabetes and HIV. 

Rotations are typically longitudinal, varying from 3 to 10 months in length.

• Teaching and Learning Certificate – in collaboration with the Shenandoah Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy
• Infusion Pharmacy (5 week rotation)

Teaching Opportunities

In addition to the optional Teaching and Learning Certificate, the resident will have the opportunity to precept an APPE student during the Specialty Pharmacy rotation, in the spring of the residency year. Opportunities for oral/written patient education, staff and other team member education are available during many of the rotations as the need arises.

The applicant will be a PharmD graduate of an ACPE School of Pharmacy

The applicant will be licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia
