About UConn John Dempsey Hospital at UConn Health
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at UConn John Dempsey Hospital at UConn Health began in 1974 at McCook Hospital in Hartford, CT and moved to John Dempsey Hospital in 1975. After 13 years of dormancy in the late ’90s and early 2000s, the program was re-established in 2012. The residency earned full accreditation status in 2013 from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
The program has a strong affiliation with the UConn School of Pharmacy through its many preceptors located at UConn Health, its teaching certificate program for residents and preceptors, co-precepting opportunities of pharmacy students, and much more.
Postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency programs build on PharmD education and outcomes to contribute to the development of a clinical pharmacist responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at UConn John Dempsey Hospital will develop the resident into a competent clinical practitioner who will contribute to positive patient outcomes.
The year-long resi...dency program establishes competency in the areas of acute patient care, ambulatory/primary care, drug information and management. The program prides itself on its attention to work-life balance through its longitudinal leadership and personal and professional development experience.
