UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital is a 352-bed non-profit, urban, community teaching hospital serving the greater Rockford area, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin. The 42-bed emergency department is a Level II Trauma Center, Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics, has a psychiatric area, and sees greater than 70,000 patients per year. With approximately 8,900 trauma visits per year, this Level II trauma center has seen a 148% increase in Category II traumas since 2018. In 2020 alone, penetrating traumas made up 93% of all Category I traumas seen in the ED.
