St. Luke's is proud to offer an ASHP-accredited one-year postgraduate PGY2 oncology residency program. The oncology residency is designed to provide individualized training that allows the resident to specialize in the care of hematology/oncology patients. Our program offers unique opportunities to care for patients with a wide variety of conditions in a community setting. Training will focus on all aspects of direct patient care, education, and clinical research to prepare the resident for an advanced oncology position and board certification (BCOP) upon graduation. St. Luke's PGY2 oncology residency program provides the resident with an opportunity to further develop their skills in both inpatient and ambulatory patient care. Required experiences include orientation, inpatient hematology/oncology I & II, outpatient hematology/oncology I & II, infectious disease, investigational drugs, academia/teaching, research project and leadership/management. Residents also have the opportunity to work with faculty and pharmacy students at the highly-ranked University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy - Duluth Campus by delivering didactic lectures, working as a teaching assistant and conducting research. If desired, the resident may also complete a teaching certificate. Our program currently accepts one resident per year.
Projects
Each resident will learn project management skills while completing one major research project. This project will focus on one specific aspect of hematology/oncology patient care. Results of the project will be presented at the local, regional and national research conferences and a manuscript will be written for the project. Residents will also complete several smaller projects as part of their various rotations.
Staffing
Residents will staff one day every other week either in the Infusion Therapy Clinic or as a clinical pharmacist on the inpatient oncology unit. The staffing commitment begins in August and runs through the end of the residency year. There is no formal weekend assignment.
