Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) is a not-for-profit health-system that serves more than 13 counties and 1 million people. At the hub of NGHS is Northeast Georgia Medical Center, with four campuses (Gainesville, Braselton, Barrow and Lumpkin). The Gainesville campus is a large community and teaching hospital. The Gainesville campus, along with Laurelwood (a mental health and substance abuse treatment center) comprise 667-acute care beds. The health system is recognized for cardiac, trauma (level II), comprehensive stroke, emergency medicine and more. The Health System includes Northeast Georgia Physicians Group, a network of primary and specialty Ambulatory Care providers. The department of Pharmacy provides comprehensive, patient-focused care services.
The PGY-1 learning experiences include Internal Medicine, Trauma, Medical Critical Care, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Ambulatory Care, ID/Antimicrobial Stewardship, Formal Research, Leadership, Medication Safety, Nutritional Support, Pharmacokinetics and Order Verification. There are opportunities during the residency for teaching APPE students and medical residents.
