The Miriam Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program builds on doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Upon completion, residents are prepared to function independently as clinical pharmacists and essential members of an interdisciplinary team caring for patients. The residency program offers a wide range of pharmacy practice experiences including, internal medicine, critical care, infectious diseases/antimicrobial stewardship, administration, academia, ambulatory care - primary care and diabetes, ambulatory care - infectious diseases and HIV, emergency medicine, hematology/oncology, pharmacy informatics, investigational drug services, medication safety, research, and practice management. Residents also participate in completing the teaching certificate program at the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. As part of the Lifespan Health System, The Miriam Hospital pharmacy residents are eligible to early commit to Lifespan's PGY2 programs in Critical Care, Ambulatory Care, and Oncology.
