Pharmacy Residency Training at UK HealthCare
Pharmacy residency training through the University of Kentucky HealthCare originated in the 1960s. Since then, the UK HealthCare Pharmacy Residency Program has grown exponentially to consist of two PGY1 pharmacy practice programs and a multitude of PGY2 specialty programs who have graduated over 500 residents combined thus far.
UK HealthCare – Good Samaritan Hospital PGY1 Program Overview
The UK HealthCare – Good Samaritan Hospital Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency program is a 12-month program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The mission of the program is to further develop the resident’s professional competence in providing distinguished pharmaceutical care, while honing their professional self-development. This program is structured to provide clinical pharmacy experience in both a community hospital and an academic medical center, and to foster the resident’s growth in the areas of communication, critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork. Upon completion of this program the resident will be eligible for board certification. The resident will also be equipped to practice in a multitude of settings or pursue PGY2 pharmacy residency training. PGY2 residencies available for early commitment within UK HealthCare include Ambulatory Care, Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Medication-Use Safety and Policy, Oncology, Pediatrics, and Solid-Organ Transplant.
