The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency conducted by CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas is accredited by ASHP.

PGY1 Program Purpose:  PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Additionally, the residency program at CHI St. Vincent is designed to develop a well-rounded pharmacy practitioner and future leader in pharmacy practice, who is clinically prepared for an advanced level of practice at a community-based hospital.  Our residency gives in-depth experience in broad areas of pharmacy practice, including internal medicine, critical care, infectious disease, cardiology, medication safety, emergency medicine, and antimicrobial stewardship. The resident’s activities include, but are not limited to, education for coworkers and patients, multi-disciplinary rounds, precepting pharmacy students, major research project to present at a residents conference, poster presentation, pharmacy committee participation, MUE and new drug reviews, and completion of teaching certificate and research certificate programs.

Application Requirements

• A strong academic record and desire for professional accomplishment (Minimum GPA = 3.25 on 4.0 Scale)
• Employment experience in a pharmacy setting while pursuing Doctor of Pharmacy degree highly preferred
• Graduation from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
• Eligible for licensure in the state of Arkansas
• Registered with the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS®)
• Participation in the ASHP Resident Matching Program, administered by National Matching Services Inc.
• Submission of a detailed letter of intent, current curriculum vitae, official academic transcripts, and three letters of recommendation through PhORCAS®
• Application Deadline is January 2nd

3 Electives (Two 4 Week and One 2 Week) of Resident’s Choice:

• Cardiovascular Critical Care
• Emergency Medicine II
• Managed Care / Populations Health (Arkansas Health Network)
• Pediatric Transplant (Arkansas Children’s Hospital)
• Pediatric Critical Care (Arkansas Children’s Hospital)
• Pulmonary ICU
• Other electives may be pursued if preceptor and experience type are available and feasible

Learning experiences are sequenced based on the results of the resident’s interest and self-evaluation form. No more than one-third of the twelve-month PGY1 pharmacy residency program deals with a specific patient disease state and population (e.g., critical care, cardiology). Residents must spend two thirds or more of the program in direct patient care activities.

Staffing Requirements (Hospital Pharmacy Practice LE):

• Evenings: 1 evening a week
• Weekends: Every 4th Weekend 
• Major Holidays Required:  Memorial Day and Labor Day
