Our purpose is to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
Baptist Hospitals is a 500-bed community hospital serving seven surrounding counties with a population in excess of 550,000. We are a Level IV trauma center and are accredited as primary care centers for both stroke and chest pain. We have a level III NICU to provide care for our tiny patients. In collaboration with Acadian EMS, we are the home base of an air medical program supporting the entirety of the Southeast Texas region. Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas provides abundant resources for outpatient and inpatient services, including multiple outpatient infusion centers, outpatient oncology, and the only inpatient behavioral health facility in Southeast Texas.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency conducted by Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas is accredited by ASHP. During this program, residents will work closely with pharmacists, physicians, medical residents, mid-level practitioners, nurses, administrators, and various other disciplines to provide care for a diverse patient population. Residents will work with a mentor to individualize the residency program to help them achieve their personal and professional goals. Residents will complete core and longitudinal rotations, develop leadership and precepting skills, complete a major research project and complete a teaching certificate program.
Candidates for this one-year pharmacy residency must have:
A strong academic record and a desire for professional accomplishment
Graduated from an ACPE- accredited college of pharmacy with a Pharm.D. degree by the start of the residency year
Entry-level knowledge and skills equivalent to that which would be expected of a recent doctor of pharmacy or other appropriate advanced degree candidate
Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in Texas
The resident must obtain licensure in the State of Texas within 120 days of entering the program
Registered with the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) and ASHP Residency Matching Program
Submitted application through PhORCAS by January 1st
