The PGY1 pharmacy residency program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The PGY1 pharmacy residency program at Dayton Children’s Hospital is a full time, 12-month practice commitment. The residency program is designed and conducted in a manner that supports residents in achieving the above purpose and the required educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. The program offers an individualized training plan for each resident based on their interests, goals, and past experiences. Residents are required to complete core rotations to build a strong knowledge base and will have the opportunity to select elective rotations in many fields of interest.
Available learning experiences include administration, general pediatrics, pediatric ICU, newborn ICU, hematology/oncology, infectious disease/antimicrobial stewardship, pulmonary, neurology/complex care, emergency medicine, and nutrition support, as well as longitudinal learning experiences in ambulatory care, pharmacy informatics, medication safety, formulary management, teaching, research, and staffing. Resident will also have an opportunity to work towards receiving a teaching certificate.
