Residency Showcase Program Listings

Walgreens Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program is a postgraduate training opportunity for pharmacists to enhance their skill set in the community pharmacy setting. The residency is academically affiliated with Sullivan University College of Pharmacy. The majority of the residency experience will be located in Louisville, KY and Southern Indiana at Walgreens pharmacies. This residency will allow the pharmacist to build on their professional skills by providing a variety of patient care services.

Pharmacists in this setting will have a direct influence on patient outcomes through participation in patient counseling, immunization services, disease state management, community events, and medication therapy management. There will be additional experiences with established HIV programs at our specialty pharmacy in the Louisville. Residents will also work to develop collaboration with other area providers and community stakeholders. The pharmacist will complete a teaching certificate program and will assist in teaching opportunities and precepting experiences for the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy. The residency program graduates will be leaders in the pharmacy community and will have an active role in advancing community pharmacy practice.

Residency Activities

The resident will participate in the provision of patient care services through the following:

• Development of collaborative programs to improve patient adherence and outcomes
• Perform Medication therapy management
• Assist in delivery of complex HIV/AIDS medication education
• Provide personalized, comprehensive care to patients with complex conditions
• Educate providers and payers on local specialty services
• Evaluate the sustainability of new patient care programs
• Enhance existing patient care programs
• Administer immunizations
• Complete a Teaching Certificate Program
• Serve as preceptor and instructor to pharmacy students
• Design and conduct a practice-based residency project
• Present residency project findings at a professional conference
• Perform patient centered dispensing
• Provide clinical instruction to student pharmacists at the college of pharmacy and practice site
• Participate in community service events

Candidate Requirements

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
• Complete the online resident position application at https://jobs.walgreens.com
• Kentucky and Indiana pharmacist license within 90 days of the start of the residency program
• Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
• Curriculum Vitae
• Three professional letters of recommendation
• Official university transcripts
• Letter of intent explaining why your are pursuing a community pharmacy residency and what you hope to gain from the residency program
• On-site interview (upon invitation)
• Registered with the National Matching Service (NMS).

A completed application and all accompanying materials must be received no later than December 31st to be considered for the program.
