Our PGY1 Residency Program is comprehensive and flexible including both block and longitudinal rotations. Our required block rotations are Ambulatory Care, Drug Information, Geriatrics, and two Internal Medicine (Fall and Spring). Our required longitudinal rotations are Anticoagulation, Research, Staffing and Management.
Electives are available and offered in the following areas: Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Heart Failure, Emergency Department, Mental Health, Hematology/Oncology, Spinal Cord Injury, Nutrition, Women's Health, Management and more. The program offers availability of PGY2 specialty residencies in Ambulatory Care, and Psychiatry.
The Dallas VA Medical Center is a closed system that provides comprehensive medical care and services ranging from acute patient care to ambulatory outpatient care, home care, and long-term care. Pharmacists assigned to clinics operate under a designated scope of practice that includes initiating and/or modifying drug therapy.
Residents are required to independently precept pharmacy students in the second half of the PGY1 program. There are many educational opportunities offered as well such as participating in a Teaching and Learning Certificate Program.

Our PGY1 Residency Program has 7 PGY1 positions. All applicants must apply through PhORCAS and via The Match.
RESIDENCY INTERVIEWS WILL BE CONDUCTED IN-PERSON FOR THE 2022-2023 APPLICATION CYCLE
Minimum Applicant Qualification Requirements
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) accredited School of Pharmacy
Minimum pharmacy school GPA of 3.2 or equivalent. Applicants from pass/fail curriculums may apply as well
Hold an active pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure in at least one state or territory of the United States (U.S.) of America or District of Columbia
U.S. citizenship
COVID vaccination
Completed applications must be submitted via PhORCAS by 11:59 pm CST on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
For consideration, required documents uploaded must include: three (3) clinical letters of reference* (2 of which must be from clinical preceptors), a letter of intent*, curriculum vitae (CV), and an official copy of pharmacy school transcripts
*Letter of intent should address these questions:
