The Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program affiliated with Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Walgreens is designed to provide the resident with a structured education and training experience. The mission of our residency is to provide postgraduate training that enables residents to build on their professional skills, achieve their professional goals, and become a leader within the profession. The resident will develop expertise in medication therapy management (MTM), chronic disease state management, as well as initiate, implement, and maintain collaborative working relationships within the community.
The residency will provide an opportunity for the pharmacist to practice at the Western New England University College of Pharmacy Community Patient Care Center and two Walgreens sites (Specialty Community and traditional store) in Springfield, Massachusetts. Patient care duties include collaborating with other health care providers to improve patient outcomes, providing comprehensive medication regimen reviews, educating patients and providers, as well as counseling regarding medications and/or chronic conditions. The resident will be expected to design, plan, and implement community screening events. Academic opportunities include small group discussions as well as large didactic lectures. He/she will co-precept Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiential learners from Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Upon completion of this program, the resident will have developed the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the practice of pharmacy and become a leader in the profession and within Walgreens.
