Residents who complete the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at AdventHealth Altamonte will develop the skills to provide direct patient care in multiple inpatient healthcare settings.
Learning experiences are available in a variety of clinical specialties including Critical Care, Family Medicine, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Pharmacokinetics, Metabolic Support, Diabetes / Glycemic Management, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Clinical Leadership, Ambulatory Care, and Pharmacotherapy.
Additional professional development is achieved through the completion of longitudinal activities including a formulary review, medication use evaluation, continuing education presentation, and pharmacy student precepting. Residents also will design and conduct a research project pertinent to patient care, pharmacy operations, quality improvement, regulatory issues, and/or medication safety. Results will be presented at the Florida Residency Conference and incorporated into a manuscript suitable for publication. Active health system committee participation throughout the residency includes Formulary Subcommittee, Medication Safety Committee and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Service commitment: residents will participate in clinical and distributive pharmacy staffing equivalent to one shift per week plus one major holiday in accordance with the ASHP Duty Hours Requirements for Pharmacy Residencies.

To help achieve the goals expressed in the Promise Statement, the Department of Pharmacy at AdventHealth Altamonte Springs established ...an ASHP accredited PGY1 Residency Program. The program expands both clinical and staffing services at our facility, and augments the excellent pharmacy staff we currently have. Residents will participate in a decentralized pharmacy model and work with multidisciplinary teams, monitoring responses to drug therapy and optimizing care to improve patient outcomes. Residents who complete the residency program will develop the critical thinking skills necessary to provide patient-focused care and become confident, independent clinicians in the health care team.
