Guthrie, located in north central PA and south central NY, is a non-profit integrated health care delivery system. Robert Packer Hospital, primary resident location, is a 288-bed tertiary care, level II trauma, teaching referral center.
This residency will provide opportunities for post-graduate pharmacists seeking professional growth beyond entry-level competence. Learning experiences focus on acute patient care in areas to include:
Adult intensive care (medical and surgical)
Internal medicine
Antibiotic stewardship
Medication safety
Pharmacy Leadership
Teaching/learning (ASHP teaching certificate is available)
Ambulatory infusion (focus on hazardous and sterile medication compounding)
Project/Research (curriculum taught with Clinical Research, Quality/Outcomes; Pharmacy Clinical Research Microcredential is available)
Longitudinal staffing (currently every 3rd weekend and one evening every 3rd weekend)

Cardiology (including Ambulatory)

Family Medicine

Longitudinal Emergency Medical Response
Program strengths include:

Flexible customization of individual residency plans
Interdisciplinary/specialty collaboration (including other Graduate Medical Education programs Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Orthopedic, Anesthesiology residencies and fellowships including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary/Critical Care; (also Hematology/Oncology and Endocrinology anticipated in 2023)
Affiliation with multiple colleges of pharmacy including Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Wilkes University School of Pharmacy; Guthrie RPH is also a campus for the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
Possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.
Be eligible for work and licensure in Pennsylvania.
Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital will be participating in the Resident Matching Program and The Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS). Residency candidates must also participate in both.

Licensure Requirements
Our residents are required to be licensed in the state of Pennsylvania.
Residents are required to be licensed in the state of Pennsylvania by October 31. Failure to obtain licensure may result in dismissal from the program.
Residents who fail to make satisfactory progress on any residency goals and objectives are subject to dismissal, as stated in policies set forth by the program.
Special Note:
We NO LONGER require NYS pharmacist licensure beginning 2020-21 residency class.
