The purpose of the Spectrum Health PGY1 program is to build upon the doctor of pharmacy education to contribute to the development of independent clinical pharmacists. Core rotation experiences occur in ambulatory care, critical care, antimicrobial stewardship, internal medicine, management, and pediatrics. The program is flexible to allow individuals to pursue elective rotations in specialized areas, such as emergency medicine, transplant, informatics, and oncology. Additional skills are developed through Pharmacy Grand Rounds presentations, completion of a Pharmacy Research Seminar series, and participation in the Pharmacy Education Development and Lecture Series teaching certificate program. Additional requirements include ACLS/PALS certification, medical emergency response, and a medication use evaluation. Residents are offered the unique opportunity to staff in the adult or pediatric ICU, emergency department, or inpatient pharmacy. Upon completion of the program, residents will be well equipped to pursue board certification and post-graduate year two residency training.
Qualified applicants are graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or one in process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). At minimum, the program must be a five-year pharmacy degree program. Applicants must be eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Michigan within 90 days of hire.
All pharmacy residency applications will be accepted through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS).
