Spectrum Health is an integrated health system comprised of 14 hospitals and numerous clinics in West Michigan. Our tertiary care medical center in Grand Rapids, Michigan is a level one trauma center and is comprised of three teaching hospitals- Butterworth Hospital, Blodgett Hospital, and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
The purpose of the Spectrum Health Postgraduate Year Two (PGY-2) Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program is to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification. Required learning experiences include: Orientation, Management/Project Month, Medical (Butterworth), Medical/Burn (Blodgett), Surgical 1, Cardiothoracic, Neurological, Surgical or Neurological 2, and Emergency Medicine. Elective learning experiences include: Pediatric/Neonatal, Infectious Disease, Emergency Medicine/ICU (Blodgett), Adult Solid Organ Transplant, and Academia.
Qualified applicants are graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or one in process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). At minimum, the program must be a five-year pharmacy degree program. Applicants must be eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Michigan within 90 days of hire.
For PGY2 programs, the applicant must be participating in, or have completed, an ASHP-accredited hospital Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency as evidence of a PharmAcademic inquiry and/or proof of certificate of completion prior to enrollment.
All pharmacy residency applications will be accepted through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS).
