Spectrum Health is an integrated health system comprised of 14 hospitals and numerous clinics in West Michigan. Our tertiary care medical center in Grand Rapids, Michigan is a level one trauma center and is comprised of three teaching hospitals- Butterworth Hospital, Blodgett Hospital, and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
The purpose of the Spectrum Health – Helen DeVos Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Pediatric Pharmacy Residency is to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area. Required learning experiences include: General Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care (Advanced), Neonatal Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care (Advanced), Management, Pediatric Oncology/Hematology, Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Elective learning experiences include: Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Oncology/Hematology (Advanced), Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant, General Pediatrics (Advanced).
Qualified applicants are graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or one in process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). At minimum, the program must be a five-year pharmacy degree program. Applicants must be eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Michigan within 90 days of hire.
For PGY2 programs, the applicant must be participating in, or have completed, an ASHP-accredited hospital Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency as evidence of a PharmAcademic inquiry and/or proof of certificate of completion prior to enrollment.
All pharmacy residency applications will be accepted through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS).
