Our 12-month PGY-1 managed care pharmacy residency program and PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs offer unique opportunities to develop expertise in a variety of pharmacy practice areas within Kaiser Permanente’s integrated health care model.

*PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency Program Purpose: To build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist clinicians with diverse patient care, leadership and education skills who are eligible for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. A managed care pharmacy residency will provide systematic training of pharmacists to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient care and managed care pharmacy practice.
Kaiser Permanente Mid- Atlantic States PGY-1 Managed Care Residents will gain competence in a variety of practice areas within an integrated managed care organization. Customized training will include experiences in: benefits design and application, informatics/ systems support and integration, formulary and drug use management, quality, medication safety and compliance, primary care, medication therapy management (MTM), drug distribution, leadership development and optional teaching certificate program. Upon completion of the program, residents will be able to function independently in a variety of ambulatory and managed care settings.

In addition to helping develop new and update existing pharmacy services, you will be afforded the following exciting opportunities to:
Become a member of the Regional Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee meeting through development and presentation of comprehensive drug reviews
Assist in educating pharmacy students through journal club and other group activities
Develop and present continuing education programs to health care providers, team members, as well as professional and community organizations
Conduct population-based projects
Balance both autonomy and support
