Residency Showcase Program Listings

The PGY2 critical care residency program at UT Medical Center facilitates the development of critical care pharmacy specialists who excel in providing care to critically ill patients and are qualified for a clinical faculty appointment at a college of pharmacy. Residents will refine their skills in the critical care environment via a well-established integrated clinical practice model with increased autonomy and responsibility for managing patient care, overseeing students and residents, and involvement with practice management endeavors.

Our pharmacy residents provide quality patient-oriented care, prospectively developing pharmaceutical plans for each patient and ensuring optimal pharmacotherapeutic outcomes. All activities are done in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations with the health and welfare of the patient paramount.

Required learning experiences include: Trauma I and II, Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Metabolic Support, Neurocritical Care, Cardiovascular Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, and Academia. In addition, completion of the Teaching and Learning Program is required if one was not completed during the PGY1 residency year. Elective experiences include: Neonatology, Critical Care Medicine II, Emergency Medicine II, Nightshift Medicine, Evening Critical Care, Anesthesia Pain, and Transplant Medicine.

About University of Tennessee Medical Center

The University of Tennessee Medical Center is a 710-bed, acute care, teaching hospital. It serves the entire East Tennessee region, providing all general and specialty clinical services and carries a Level I trauma center designation, supported by an aeromedical helicopter program. The medical center campus includes the UT College of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Medicine.  The pharmacy staff provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, through decentralized pharmacist teams supported by pharmacist specialists in a wide variety of clinical areas. Additionally, there are satellite pharmacies in the operating room and oncology areas. 

1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
2. PGY1 residency training
3. Tennessee Pharmacy License (or eligible)
