The 24-month Pharmacotherapy residency program at the University of Tennessee Medical Center/University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Pharmacy offers clinical experiences in a variety of patient care settings as well as experiences in teaching, writing, and research. Required rotations include family medicine, ambulatory care, critical care medicine, transplant medicine, oncology, infectious diseases, academia, practice management/medication safety, drug information/drug use policy, hospital practice and the completion of a research project. Multiple elective opportunities are also available.
During the first year of the 24-month residency, the resident will be required to complete the Pharmacy Educator Program through the UTHSC Teaching and Learning Center. Throughout the residency, the Pharmacotherapy Resident will teach in the pre-clinical curriculum at the UTHSC College of Pharmacy through lecture, small-group facilitation, and case-based teaching. The resident will also be required to teach in the experiential setting by precepting APPE students on rotations at UT Medical Center.

About University of Tennessee Medical Center Pharmacotherapy Residency (24-month)
The hospital is a 600-bed tertiary care facility that serves the entire East Tennessee region, providing all general and specialty (including Level III Neonatal ICU) clinical services, and a Level I Trauma Center designation supported by an aeromedical helicopter program. The hospital utilizes an electronic Medication Administration Record and Bar-Coded Medication Administration along with Computerized Prescriber Order Entry and Documentation. The pharmacy staff at UTMC provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care, including operating a surgery satellite, oncology satellite, retail pharmacy, twelve integrated clinical teams, and specialized services in 18 clinical areas. The department also has a full-time medication safety office and supports a growing clinical trials operation. The campus includes a graduate school of medicine as well as a college of pharmacy, allowing for additional teaching and learning opportunities.
