Spartanburg Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC is home to two pharmacy residency programs; a three-resident PGY1 program established since 2012 and a one-resident PGY2 program specializing in critical care.
The PGY1 program is dedicated to preparing pharmacy residents to assume positions as well-rounded hospital pharmacists or pursue second year postgraduate training in a specialty field. The twelve-month postgraduate curriculum will provide exposure and practical experience in decentralized clinical services, pharmacokinetics, medication safety, pharmacy education, clinical pharmacy specialty services, departmental and organizational administration, clinical research, and pharmacy staffing. Spartanburg Medical Center offers a diverse array of rotations including critical care, internal medicine, pediatrics, infectious disease, cardiology, emergency medicine and optional experiences in ambulatory care. Residents will have the opportunity to present formal lectures, provide in-services, precept students, and develop a residency project. Residents will also have the opportunity to complete a teaching certificate offered through collaboration with the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy.
The PGY2 Critical Care program is designed to prepare pharmacy residents to assume positions as critical care pharmacy specialists qualified for medical critical care, trauma/surgical critical care, and emergency medicine positions. This residency program facilitates the development of the resident’s skills in the critical care environment with increased autonomy and responsibility for managing patient care, precepting pharmacy students and residents, and involvement with practice management projects and clinical research.

Graduate of ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy. Eligible for South Carolina license (please note South Carolina intern hour requirement of 500 hours in addition to maximum of 1000 intern hours obtained through pharmacy school).
