The PGY1/PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency offers candidates a very unique experience through combining administrative, clinical and informatics pharmacy learning experiences over the course of 24 months. In this unique program, the resident will support existing pharmacy informatics services and dedicate time to informatics-related quality improvement projects and research with a focus on safety, efficiency, and state-of-the-art pharmacy-related technologies. The resident will spend significant time learning clinical decision support systems, medication life-cycle technologies from ordering to administration, pharmacy financial excellence and compliance through technologies, and data mining skills. The program includes core clinical and operational pharmacy rotations to ensure the necessary foundation to build upon for the informatics focus.

Licensure and employment: Texas pharmacist licensure is required within 90 days of starting the program. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment.

Projects
The resident will complete a major research project with the guidance of a preceptor for each year of the residency. The manuscript from this project must be in publishable form by the end of the residency year. The resident will also plan and design a major research project for the next year’s residency class in collaboration with a preceptor.
A quality improvement project is also required which is often a Medication Use Evaluation
