Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership
This specialty residency is designed to prepare a pharmacy practitioner for a clinical or operational management/supervisory role in a variety of work settings. The residency is designed to provide a strong foundation for pharmacy administration skills and competencies in pharmacy practice leadership.
This is a twelve-month postgraduate year two program that provides training and experience in Health System Pharmacy Administration. Pharmacists completing this PGY2 specialty residency will build off their PGY1 residency competencies in the delivery of patient-centered care and pharmacy operational services. This residency lays the foundation for continued growth in management and leadership skills with the expectation that with several years of successful pharmacy administration practice, the residency graduate should be ready to assume high-level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities of a large hospital or health-system pharmacy.
Program preceptors will provide significant opportunities for the resident to contribute to management and leadership activities at the local, regional, or national VA. Appropriate guidance and instruction will be provided for all activities, as well as development of a career path and objectives for the resident. These opportunities include, but are not limited to medication preparation, distribution, and use, performance improvement, strategic planning, regulatory compliance, medication safety, human resource management, fiscal management, automation, and technology.
