Our PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency training program is designed to develop clinical competency as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the area of oncologic pharmacotherapy. Our clinically based program offers ongoing inpatient and outpatient longitudinal experiences devoted to the development of skills essential for the delivery of pharmaceutical care with a primary focus on oncology. To augment the VA experience, the resident may train off site in the areas of bone marrow transplant, gynecologic cancers, and pediatric oncology. In addition, the resident will be able to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes and formulary management as active members of the health care team. The resident will be able to serve as a competent oncology rotation preceptor of 4th year pharmacy and PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residents in their Oncology Pharmacy Practice Experience elective rotations. Lastly, the resident will be able to exercise proficiency in communication and in educating other health care professionals, patients, and the community on drug related topics in oncology. Graduates of this 12-month training program should be able to provide a high level of direct patient care, ultimately leading to competence commensurate with Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy Practice by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties and obtain employment as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Oncology.
