Providence St Mary Medical Center (PSMMC) pharmacy provides post-year graduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency training. This training will provide the pharmacy resident with the skills, opportunities, and knowledge to become a competent pharmacy practitioner. Additionally, the pharmacy resident will receive guidance and mentoring to foster a professional attitude towards the profession of pharmacy. PSMMC has 4 PGY1 pharmacy residency positions available.
The program will provide an individualized plan of training for each resident based on his or her goals, interests, previous experience, and areas of weaknesses and strengths. Each resident will be required to complete a set of core learning experiences. A range of elective learning experiences is offered to each resident to allow them to pursue individualized goals. Additional learning experiences are offered to create a well-rounded pharmacist with a high level of practice in many areas and situations within the rural hospital, including the development and completion of a major, sound project related to pharmacy practice within the hospital, patient education, and participation in various departmental and hospital-wide committees. Further learning experiences will be offered to the resident in an outpatient clinic and system-level regional clinical pharmacy management.
PSMMC's pharmacy residency program is a minimum of 52 weeks in duration. The pharmacy resident is an employee of PSMMC and qualifies for employee benefits. The benefits package includes salary, medical, prescription, vision, and dental coverage (for the resident and dependents), and paid time off. Paid time off is accrued as one works, which can total up to two weeks. The pharmacy resident is a salary position of $55,931 which when broken down is approximately $26.89/hour. The residency program supports travel to state, regional, and national meetings.

Providence St. Mary Medical Center is an acute-care, general and referral center offering a full range of adult/pediatric medical, surgical, and critical care services.
Our pharmacy department provides centralized order entry with automated unit dose and IV admixture distribution. Our clinical pharmacists provide service to the entire hospital, including pharmacokinetic consultation, drug information, antimicrobial stewardship, total parenteral nutrition consultation, pharmacotherapy infusion clinic, transitions of care, and patient medication education for discharge.
Clinical pharmacists are involved in hospital and medical staff education, committee participation, clinical pathway development, medication utilization evaluation, adverse drug reaction monitoring and reporting, quality assurance and competency assessment.

Applicant Requirements
Prior to the start of the program, the resident shall be a graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) and shall be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Washington. Residents not licensed as a pharmacist at the beginning of the residency must be licensed as a pharmacy intern in the state of Washington. The applicant shall meet all the requirements for employment at PSMMC and meet the professional requirements of the Washington State Board Department of Pharmacy.
Strong residency candidates will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, professionalism, leadership, and demonstrate a commitment to the provision of pharmaceutical care. Candidates must participate in the ASHP resident matching program.
