The PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn (BH-D) is a 12-month program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) designed to prepare the resident for independent practice in a clinical environment. The resident will acquire an extensive skillset and sophisticated clinical experience that will allow for the provision of advanced pharmaceutical care in a wide variety of disease states. Graduates of the residency program will have the ability to practice and teach effectively in multiple settings.

The pharmacy resident will have the opportunity to collaborate with clinical pharmacy specialists, pharmacists, and Wayne State University (WSU) faculty to build upon and gain knowledge in a wide variety of areas and with patients at a variety of levels of care. The PGY-1 residency program will be tailored to the needs of the resident based on previous clinical experience and future interests

The program at BH-D will give you: 

• Training in a 632-bed teaching and research hospital with a Level II trauma center and a primary stroke center, ranked hospital #11 in Metro Detroit  and #17 in Michigan by the U.S. News & World Report 2022-23
• Learning experiences in both clinical and non-patient care areas 
• Unique longitudinal ambulatory care learning experiences
• Precepting opportunities for students in Doctor of Pharmacy programs
• Participation in the Leadership Development Program with pharmacy residents from other Beaumont Health locations
• Teaching certificate through Wayne State University’s Post Graduate Pharmacy Teaching and Learning Curriculum
• Year-long support from an advisor  to ensure goals are being met throughout the residency year

The program accepts 4 PGY1 residents for 2022-23.  Learning experiences consist of 10 block rotations scheduled alongside longitudinal experiences.  While all longitudinal learning experiences are required by the program, block rotation schedules consist of 5 required rotations and 5 elective rotations.  Residents may not take more than one non-patient care elective.  Block rotations are generally 5-week experiences; the exceptions being Block 1 (Orientation, 6 weeks), Block 5 (4-weeks), and Block 6 (a 4-week block encompassing the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and reserved for research and longitudinal projects).

Application requirements include:

• Pharmacist License (or eligibility) and Controlled Substance License for the state of Michigan.
• Complete application via PhORCAS, including:
• Transcript from ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
• Personal statement/Letter of Intent
• 3 Letters of Recommendation
