PIH Health Whittier Hospital (PHWH) - is a nonprofit, 500-bed hospital in a regional healthcare network dedicated to putting patients first and providing top-quality healthcare. The pharmacy department at PHWH - strives to maximize the safety and effectiveness of medications to optimize patient outcomes. The Postgraduate (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency is designed to cultivate the skills necessary to be a successful clinical pharmacist in an inpatient setting. The purpose of this program is to accelerate the resident’s growth beyond entry-level professional competence and to further the development of leadership skills. PGY-1 residents will acquire extensive knowledge, refine problem-solving skills, strengthen their professional values and attitudes and advance the growth of their clinical judgement.

The PIH Health Whittier Hospital program is fully accredited by ASHP.
Learning Experiences: 8 required rotations including: Medicine, Distribution, Critical Care, Glucose Management, etc. and 2 elective rotations including Oncology Outpatient Infusion Center, NICU, ID, etc.

Staffing Requirements
Residents are required to staff one weekend per learning experience, not to exceed a total of 40 hours per week, including all resident duty hours.
General Residency Program Information
Number of positions: 1
Period of appointment: 12 months, from July 1 through June 30
Salary: approximately $54,000
18 days of paid time off (vacation and sick leave) and 7 paid holidays
Professional leave and travel expense budget to attend select pharmacy conferences

Applicants must be a graduate from Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree (or in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP by the start of the residency year.
Residents must be licensed by the state of California within 90 days from the start of the program.

PIH Health Hospital is a 544 bed regional hospital and healthcare center serving southeastern Los Angeles County and portions of the San Gabriel Valley and Orange County area. Founded in 1959, the hospital is a non-profit organization guided by a board of directors.
The medical staff of over 350 physicians and surgeons represents virtually all major medical specialties. Among the services provided are cardiac care and rehabilitation, cancer care, respiratory services, family-centered maternity and neonatal intensive care. The hospital offers emergency care as a paramedic base station. PIH is a designated STEMI and Comprehensive Stroke receiving center for Los Angeles and Orange Counties. There are hospitalists and intensivist physicians present at all times.
