The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) is a nationally recognized community hospital in Aurora, CO and is an affiliate of HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services, and HealthONE, Denver’s largest healthcare system. TMCA is a Level II Trauma Center, accredited Chest Pain Center and holds Primary Stroke Certification. TMCA has earned three-time Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence, becoming the first community hospital in metro Denver to achieve this accomplishment. Some of the many services provided include critical care, emergency medicine, cardiovascular services, behavioral health, surgery, trauma, infectious disease, nephrology, pediatrics and neonatology, oncology, neurology, and labor and delivery.
The Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the state, providing treatment for approximately 80,000 patients annually. TMCA claims the largest behavioral health inpatient facility in the state and offers services for patients in age groups ranging from pediatric to geriatric, along with numerous outpatient services. Using advanced technology to remain on the cutting edge of healthcare, TMCA is proud to provide superior, personalized patient care. At The Medical Center of Aurora, you will have the opportunity to work in a progressive environment that focuses on patient care and encourages teamwork in all facets of healthcare.
The pharmacy department at TMCA provides pharmaceutical services to all areas of the hospital. Pharmacists play a vital role in patient care through decentralization in patient care areas, representation as valued members of interdisciplinary rounding teams, and representation on hospital committees. The central pharmacy utilizes technology to efficiently and safely dispense medications. There are pharmacy satellites in the intensive care unit and operating room.
Pharmacy staff works closely with all other members of the healthcare team to enhance patient care. Pharmacists enjoy a robust scope of practice policy that includes dosing vancomycin, aminoglycosides, warfarin, and insulin glargine; along with IV to PO conversion and renal adjustment.
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The PGY1 residency at The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) was established in 2002. The residency program will increase confidence and knowledge in clinical pharmacy practice, as well as medication distribution roles.
