PGY1

The USC College of Pharmacy PGY1-Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program is offered in collaboration with the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center (KPIC) and has two positions – one with Medicine Mart Pharmacy in West Columbia, SC, and one at Hawthorne Pharmacy in Columbia, SC. Our PGY1 program aims to develop pharmacy leaders who can improve the health of patients within the communities they serve.

For the 2024-2025 Residency Year, we are recruiting TWO PGY1 positions, 1 for each location. 

The PGY1 residents will be involved with enhancing and developing value-added patient care services in the community pharmacy setting, including immunizations, disease state management and education programs, medication therapy management, health screenings and community outreach programs. In addition, the residents will have the opportunity to develop, implement and manage a new patient care service at their site. The residents receive entrepreneurial business-focused training and support from the KPIC. The residents will complete a research project, present an abstract and poster at a national meeting and complete a formalized presentation. Many teaching opportunities exist at both the practice site and at the College of Pharmacy, including a required teaching certificate program. Additionally, the residents participate in a yearlong professional development series that includes leadership training and the creation of a business plan for a position post-residency

PGY1/PGY2

The USC College of Pharmacy PGY1/PGY2 Community-Based Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency Program is offered in collaboration with the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center (KPIC) and Premise Health. The program has two positions located at the Associate Family Health Center in Greer, SC and one position located at the Wiggins Family Medical Center & Pharmacy in Carrollton, GA.

For the 2024-2025 Residency Year, we are recruiting TWO PGY1 positions, 1 for each location. The PGY1 Residents will work closely with a PGY2 Resident at the Greer, SC location. 

The program is designed to develop a pharmacist who can provide high quality patient care, manage an innovative pharmacy practice, evaluate and improve the quality of the care provided, lead organizational change, and advance the profession of pharmacy.
The PGY1 program provides a strong foundation in patient care as the resident functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team by utilizing the Pharmacist Patient Care Process to deliver disease state and comprehensive medication management services in community and ambulatory care settings. Additionally, the PGY1 resident obtains valuable project management and professional development skills that will enhance their PGY2 experience. The PGY2 program provides the opportunity to gain the requisite business and leadership skills to anticipate, address, and lead change within the complex health care system. The PGY2 resident leads projects and initiatives designed to improve care provided to Premise Health clients across the country.
Our combined program delivers strong clinical, operational, management, and financial learning experiences within Premise Health, the world’s leading provider of onsite, near-site and 24/7 virtual health care.

Application Requirements

Candidates must have a PharmD degree and be eligible for pharmacist licensure in state of practice. In addition to the standard PhORCAS information, applications should include a letter of intent specific to the sites, 3 references, transcript, CV, and a written statement answering two questions “Are your grades a good indication of the type of pharmacist you will be? Why or why not?” and "How have you exhibited self-motivation and dependability in the past year?" (limit 150 words per question)
