TRAINING SITE INFORMATION
NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital Serving Arkansas, NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital provides a wide range of medical care services and treatments using high quality diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. The hospital is a six-story structure with 228 beds with expansion space for 300 beds.
NEA Baptist Pharmacy Department The Pharmacy Department of NEA Baptist, and its affiliates, is an integral part of total patient care. The Department’s prime directive being to provide for the needs of the patient and their significant others through the implementation of safe and efficient unit dose drug distribution, maximum utilization of the professional knowledge of its pharmacists, and the monitoring of medication usage in all patient populations. The team of professionals and supportive personnel within this department accepts and fulfills its responsibilities by providing pharmaceutical products and services of high quality to all patient care providers within the hospital. The Pharmacy Department at NEA Baptist has approximately 19 pharmacists and 12 technician support personnel. Every effort is made toward the achievement of these principles at the lowest possible cost through efficient operations and increased associate productivity and reflecting the Mission of NEA Baptist.
The primary recipient of pharmacy services is the patient, in that all interaction between pharmacy and other departments to provide services, direct and indirect, is with the intention of providing optimal patient care based upon the scope of care of the institution. The pharmacy systems serve both inpatient and ambulatory patients as well as many health care providers, especially nursing service and medical staff, in such vital areas as drug information and drug distribution based upon all applicable state and federal laws.
The Pharmacy Department shall serve on the P&T Committee as well as other performance improvement committees to ensure the review of all professional standards, policies, procedures, and quality improvement activities relating to procurement, storage, dispensing and safe use of medication. The Pharmacy Department shall strive to be an integral part of the patient care team.

PGY1 Pharmacy Resident Responsibilities
Improve patient care, drug safety and economic impact relating to medication use in multiple hospital settings
Actively participate in multidisciplinary patient care rounds (unit based and medical teaching service)
Assess and improve medication appropriateness through utilization of evidence-based medicine
Residents begin their PGY1 training year with hospital, department and residency orientation. These first eight weeks include EPIC training, ACLS/BLS certification, consult training/education and competency completion. Throughout the year, residents will complete three (3) required eight-week rotation blocks including Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Medicine and three (3) required longitudinal experiences including Pharmacy Administration, Staffing, and Research Project. Additionally, residents have the opportunity to choose up to four (4) elective learning experiences including repeating a required rotation in an advanced format in four to eight-week rotation blocks.

Learning experiences are clinical rotations with a strong patient care focus. These form the basis of structured resident daily activities and take priority in workflow.
The PGY1 resident will staff within the pharmacy department every other weekend with the following Friday, Saturday, Sunday off. Residents work a ten-hour shift on Saturday and Sunday during their assigned weekend. Residents will also cover one major and one minor holiday throughout the year.
PROGRAM COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
For successful completion of this PGY1 pharmacy residency program, signified with the awarding of a certificate of achievement at the end of the 12-month period, the resident must complete the following program requirements and comply with NEA Baptist policies for employment.
AR State licensure by the predetermined deadline established each calendar year.
Compliance with standards established for ALL NEA Baptist employees with no disciplinary action requiring termination.
Completion of all required, assigned hospital and department employee competencies.
Completion of ALL required staffing shifts as assigned.
Completion of clinical holiday coverage as assigned.
“Satisfactory” completion of all required longitudinal education assignments as defined in the description for each activity in the residency manual.
“Satisfactory” completion of a residency research project including IRB approval, data collection, presentation of the conclusion with proposed changes to the associated hospital staff (Service line, etc.) and development of a final manuscript suitable for publication.
Completion of all required, elective, and longitudinal learning experiences.
Documentation of achieved for residency (“ACHR”) on 85% of the required & selected elective ASHP competency objectives as evaluated in learning experiences and longitudinal experiences by the end of the 12-month residency.
Attendance at AAHP Fall Seminar, ASHP Mid-Year Clinical Meeting & MidSouth Residents Conference (MSRC) with active participation (presentation of resident research material as a poster at ASHP Midyear and assist with recruitment; platform presentation with conclusions/results at MSRC).
Completion of all PharmAcademic evaluations.
Maintain ALL documents relating to projects, longitudinal activities & presentations in the resident’s electronic folder on the Shared Drive.
Complete Resident End of the Year Checklist.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS (CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY):
Graduate from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.
Participate in the ASHP Resident Match Process.
Submit all requested documents through the PhORCAS application system including:
Letter of intent
Doctor of Pharmacy transcript
3 PhORCAS professional letters of recommendation (2 clinical preferred)
Be eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of Arkansas.
Applicants without U.S. citizenship must provide documentation of a valid work permit that lasts the entire duration of the residency year.
