Buffalo General Medical Center’s pharmacy residency program continues to evolve since its initial accreditation more than 45 years ago. The program offers a comprehensive training and education experience with a strong emphasis on clinical pharmacy practice in a multidisciplinary environment. The resident will participate in a diverse number of learning experiences gaining the skills and confidence to manage medication-related patient outcomes. The resident will integrate knowledge, skills and experience in the development of patient-specific, cost-effective pharmacotherapeutic plans. The resident will exhibit effective verbal and written communication in education of colleagues, patients, other healthcare providers, and community members regarding medications and health matters. The resident will demonstrate personal and external leadership skills through problem solving, prioritization, collaboration and a commitment to life-long learning. In achieving such skills, the resident will be confident in their abilities master future challenges and adapt to the ever-changing healthcare environment.
The PGY1 residency is a 52 week-long program consisting of blocks of required and elective learning experiences. Additionally, longitudinal experiences in residency projects, staffing/medication distribution services, leadership, preceptorship, on-call time, and teaching certification coincide with the formal learning blocks.
General residency format:
4 weeks : orientation/training
46 weeks: residency learning experiences
12 weeks are Electives
1 week: conferences
3 weeks: research & wrap-up

Infectious disease consultation service (4 weeks)
Cardiology & Care Transitions (4 weeks)

As the primary teaching hospital for the University at Buffalo School of Medicine, there are resident physicians and fellows providing round-the-clock coverage for patient care in an engaging, academic environment.

Prerequisites
Applicant must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy and must be eligible for New York State Licensure.

Application materials must be received by January 2nd of the year you wish to begin the program to be considered for an on-site interview. A formal presentation is required during the interview.
