The PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency Program at Baptist Health South Florida is a 52-week pharmacy specialty-training program in pre-candidate status seeking accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). It is designed to establish a foundation in pharmacy informatics knowledge and to develop the skills necessary to design, build and maintain the various medication-related and pharmacy applications used throughout a health system.
The goal of the program is to develop well-rounded and effective pharmacy informaticists who strive to improve medication use processes by optimizing the functionality of medication-related and pharmacy applications while enhancing end user experience. This specialty residency program uses the general clinical knowledge and experience achieved during a PGY1 residency and incorporates it into information technology. The program offers a wide variety of projects involving implementation and optimization of features in the electronic health record, along with opportunities for experience with automated dispensing cabinets, workflow and inventory management systems and IV infusion pump drug libraries. Opportunities for teaching, research, quality improvement, and professional writing are integrated. Upon completion of the program, the graduating resident will be prepared for a variety of practice positions in pharmacy and information technology.
Candidates for this residency must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy and Florida licensure (or eligible); in addition, they must have successfully completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency (certificate required). Applicants are required to submit the following documents: a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, official transcripts, and three letters of recommendation from professional references utilizing standard form required by PhORCAS™. Candidates must participate in the Resident Matching Program.
