The Geisinger Lewistown Hospital PGY1 Residency is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP). Our program welcomed its first PGY1 residents in the 2020–2021 academic year and we are recruiting new PGY1 residents for the 2024–2025 academic year.
Geisinger Lewistown Hospital is a 133-bed rural hospital in Mifflin County, serving more than 80,000 patients in central Pennsylvania. In 2021, it was named one of the nation’s top 100 rural and community hospitals by the Chartis Group. And in 2021, Geisinger Lewistown Hospital earned a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
When you’re a resident, you’re part of the Geisinger family. That means you’ll collaborate with providers on site and throughout the Geisinger system. As a clinical pharmacist, you will practice at the top of your license to contribute in acute care, ambulatory care, specialty pharmacy and research. Your curriculum is customized to help you with personal and professional goals.

The program will accept all applications through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) and participate in the national match. The applicant must submit the following materials via PhORCAS:
Letter of intent outlining career objectives
Curriculum vitae
Academic transcripts
Three professional recommendations
Also required is a Doctor of Pharmacy or equivalent degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited school or college. Applicants with certification from the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) are also welcome to apply. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Licensure requirements are available at the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy website. Applicants should ensure that they meet all the requirements for licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Licensure is required within the first 60 days of the residency program.
The deadline for application is January 3rd, 2024. The residency year begins June 17th, 2024, and ends June 30th, 2025. Individual interviews are required and are scheduled by invitation. Interviews will be conducted in a virtual setting. Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received. All candidates will be notified regarding the status of their application by January 19th, 2024.

Geisinger Lewistown Hospital is part of an integrated health care system located in a rural setting. Our residency program offers a variety of opportunities designed to prepare residents to be a confident clinical pharmacist or for a PGY2 residency program. Rotations occur in both acute care and ambulatory settings to provide residents with a comprehensive experience. Residents also have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with family medical residents and pharmacy students. Finally, the residents experience will be customized to reach their personal and professional goals.
