The Pharmacy Department provides clinical services through decentralized pharmacists in an integrated practice model. Distribution is through automated dispensing machines and centralized IV preparation. Education of health care professionals is an important component of our mission. NorthShore currently offers 10 positions in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program, 3 positions in the PGY1 Community Residency program, 1 position in the combined PGY1/2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency program, and 1 position each in the PGY2 Oncology, PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership, and PGY2 Pharmacogenomics Residency Programs. All residents have opportunities to develop and reinforce clinical, practice management, and precepting skills to advance as well rounded practitioners.
PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Description
Since 1995, NorthShore University HealthSystem has offered a comprehensive, accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program with both clinical and management exposure. The program consists of a multitude of experiences that reinforce residents’ knowledge and clinical skills to help them advance into well-rounded practitioners. Residents complete a teaching certificate program through Rosalind Franklin University and help precept pharmacy students. Practice management skills are developed through completion of projects related to quality improvement, financial and personnel management, medication safety, drug use policy and drug distribution. Currently, three resident positions are available at Evanston Hospital, four residents at Glenbrook Hospital, and three residents at Highland Park Hospital. Residents spend the majority of time at their home hospital; however will travel to other hospitals for individual rotations and as needed for meetings. Daily schedules vary by rotation. We also have ASHP accredited PGY2 Residencies in Oncology, HealthSystem Pharmacy Administration, Pharmacy Informatics, and Pharmacogenomics.
