The primary emphasis of the PGY-2 Infectious Disease (ID) Residency program at Grady Health System is to develop clinicians with expertise in pharmacotherapy of infectious diseases and antimicrobial management. Over the course of the year the resident will: gain experience in the management of common and uncommon infectious diseases; develop a solid understanding of microbiology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobials; strengthen his/her communication skills through formal and informal presentations and interactions with other healthcare providers in a variety of settings; participate in an infectious diseases and pharmacy related interdisciplinary committees. In addition, the resident will enhance his/her teaching skills by precepting pharmacy practice residents and/or students on infectious disease rotations. Residents who successfully complete the PGY-2 ID residency  program possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in infectious diseases (BCIDP).

Pharmacy residency training at Grady was established in 1996.  Residents participate in a 24-hour in house on-call program unique to only a few programs nationally.  In this capacity, residents are responsible for addressing drug information questions, responding to pharmacokinetic consults, anticoagulation consults, and participating as a member of the Code Blue Response and Stroke Response teams.   All residency programs consist of training and experience under the preceptorship of full-time Grady-employed Clinical Pharmacists.  All members of the clinical staff have a one or two years of residency training from an accredited program.   The PGY-2 ID Pharmacy Residency training year is July 1 through June 30 of the following year.

General Requirments

1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
2. Successful completion of an accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency.
3. Personal and leadership qualifications for successful completion of a specialty residency
4. Eligibility for licensure in the state of Georgia

Specific Requirements (must be submitted by January 6) 

1. Completion of PhoRCAS application requirements
2. Letter of Interest stating why the applicant desires a specialty residency (upload into PhorCAS)
3. Current Curriculum vitae (upload into PhoRCAS)
4. Official pharmacy school transcripts
5. Four (4) references completed on the PhorCAS Recommendation Form
1. Three recommendations must be from preceptors who taught the resident during a PGY-1 pharmacy residency rotation
2. One recommendation must be from the residency director
6. Residency Questionnaire: Please answer the following questions and upload them into PhoRCAS:
1. What do you wish to achieve by the conclusion of the residency?
2. Describe the ideal PGY-2 residency program.
3. Which clinical rotations in your residency program did you most like and which did you least like? Why?
4. What would your most recent immediate supervisor say are your strengths and weaknesses?
5. Describe your most rewarding experience in your residency program or pharmacy school.
6. When will you complete your PGY-1 training?
7. Will you be eligible to sit for the Georgia practical exam in June? (for those applicants who do not currently have a Georgia pharmacist license
