As part of the BayCare Health System in the Tampa Bay area, South Florida Baptist Hospital is a 150-bed community hospital located in Plant City, Florida. The PGY1 residency program is designed to build on Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e. BCPS) and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including PGY2 residencies. Program Summary: The residents will function as an integral part of the department’s patient care services. These responsibilities include the provision of pharmaceutical care, patient education, collaboration with preceptors in the education of pharmacy students, committee membership, medication safety initiatives, and operational activities. The residents are expected to complete various projects throughout the year including, but not limited to, a research project to be presented at the Florida Residency Conference and a poster presentation at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. The program is highly customizable to resident interests, and includes opportunities for precepting pharmacy students through obtaining teaching certifications, development of written and oral presentation skills, research, and the growth of leadership skills. All residents are required to complete learning experiences in core subject areas considered essential to pharmacy practice. A broad range of elective learning experiences are available that allow the resident to be flexible in pursuing individual goals. Required Core Rotations
