The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Oncology Residency is a 12-month ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency program that provides advanced training in clinical therapeutics for the pediatric cancer patient (inpatient and ambulatory care), an introduction to clinical research, and organized experiences for the management of sophisticated pharmacy service programs. The residency includes training in applied pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, nutrition support, pediatric pharmacotherapy (clinical pharmacology of anticancer drugs, infectious disease, and pain management), and unique practice settings such as critical care and bone marrow transplantation. In addition, the resident will participate in patient education, drug information, Pharmacy and Therapeutics functions, quality improvement programs, protocol development, and program development.
Experience in teaching is acquired through providing lectures, in-services, journal club presentations, and precepting of pharmacy students from the University of Tennessee and other colleges of pharmacy. Training in clinical research and participation in collaborative clinical protocols will be provided. An independent project will be carried out during the course of the residency. The resident is guided by individuals from the department faculty, administration, and professional staff.

The department consists of professional, technical, and support personnel – all focused on providing care across the inpatient/outpatient continuum. The department includes an accredited clinical laboratory responsible for all clinical drug assays and comprehensive centralized an...d decentralized distributive and clinical pharmacy services.
It is supported by an integrated state-of- the-art electronic health record, including computerized prescriber order entry. Departmental faculty and clinical staff are essential members of a laboratory-based clinical care and research program focusing on pediatric clinical therapeutics.
