PGY1 and PGY2 Combined Program Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford | Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, ranked as a top 10 children’s hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, welcomes pharmacists to join our ASHP accredited pharmacy residency program. Our 461-bed hospital has been recognized as a premier institution serving children in our community and around the world with complex medical conditions. As part of Stanford Medicine along with Stanford Health Care and Stanford School of Medicine, Packard Children’s affords residents a first-class setting for exposure to a wide variety of patients and offers numerous opportunities to foster their growth and development as independent practitioners.

The PGY1 and PGY2 combined program Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency Program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to contribute to the continued growth of clinical pharmacists by integrating clinical practice experiences with advanced leadership skills to improve the medication use process for patients. The residency places emphasis in competency areas including, but not limited to, patient-centered clinical services, safe medication-use systems, quality improvement initiatives, advanced leadership, use of technology, and management of pharmacy operations, financial resources and human resources. Residents completing a PGY2 residency in HSPA-L will begin to develop the foundation to assume high level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities as well as being eligible for board certification, if available.

Stipend and Benefits

Residents receive a competitive annual stipend of approximately $63,000 (PGY1) and $89,000 (PGY2) with full benefits and 10 days of paid time off (PTO). In addition, residents receive educational leave and funding to attend and participate in professional presentations at a minimum of 2 conferences which may include:

• Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG) Fall Conference
• American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting
• Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG) Annual Meeting

Qualifications

• PharmD degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy
• California intern pharmacist license in good standing at time of hire
• Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in California

Application Requirements

• Letter of intent stating goals and interests
• Current curriculum vitae
• Three references in PhORCAS
• Official college of pharmacy transcript
• Writing sample, preferably a drug information question response, MUE, monograph, publication
