Description
The PGY1 pharmacy residency at Children’s Medical Center Dallas builds on Doctor of Pharmacy education to provide an environment for accelerated growth under the guidance of experienced practitioners. Residents are responsible for managing and improving medication-use processes, providing evidence-based and patient centered medication therapy management, providing education, and demonstrating leadership and time management skills. PGY1 pharmacy residency graduates will be prepared to practice as clinical pharmacists or seek PGY2 residency training.
PGY1 residents have the opportunity to early commit to the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at Children's Medical Center Dallas. The early commitment process includes a formal application and interview.

Completion Requirements
Pharmacist licensure within 90 days of start date
Satisfactory completion of required learning experiences

Completion of 274 staffing hours (scheduled every 4th weekend, plus additional shifts)
Completion of pharmacist competencies, BLS and PALS certification
Completion of a major residency project
Preparation of a manuscript suitable for publication
Completion of one medication use evaluation (MUE)
Completion of one drug monograph

Wellness and Support
Children’s Medical Center Dallas offers a supportive and encouraging environment to complete PGY1 residency. Over 30 highly qualified preceptors collaborate with residents on projects, precept required and elective learning experiences, and serve as mentors via a formal mentorship program. The Pharmacy Residency Wellness Committee promotes the wellbeing of both residents and preceptors with events throughout the year. Additionally, all residents are assigned project mentors for their longitudinal research project.
Salary and Benefits
PGY1 Salary: $52,000
The Children's Health benefits program includes medical, dental, vision, prescription, disability, life insurance, paid time off, and 403b plans. Travel support is provided for ASHP Midyear and PPA Annual Meeting. Dedicated workspace is provided with a desktop computer, phone, and laptop.
Application Requirements
Applicants must be graduates or candidates for graduation of an American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
Applicants must also be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas. Each resident is required to become licensed in the state of Texas within 90 days of the residency start year. The Children’s Medical Center Pharmacy Practice Residency Program (PGY1) uses the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service[MF1] (PhORCAS) for all required materials. Candidate selection is based on evaluation of documents submitted in PhORCAS and phone/on-site interview(s).
A pre-employment screening process will follow the receipt of your application and may include a criminal background check, verification of prior employment, drug screen, physical, and evidence of authorization to work in the United States.
