PGY1 Nontraditional 24-Month Pharmacy Residency (Froedtert Hospital)

The purpose of this PGY1 residency program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

• Many teaching and precepting opportunities are available.
• Non-traditional residents complete the PGY1 program requirements over a 24 month period.
  • 52 weeks are spent staffing in a variety of areas including: central pharmacy, medicine and surgery units, infusion clinic and pre-operative clinic.
  • Rotations are scheduled approximately every other month.

Requirements for Acceptance:

PharmD degree received from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy or equivalent as indicated by achievement of the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) Certification.

Active Wisconsin Pharmacist License is required or eligible for and must obtain within 3 months of start of residency.

In March 2021, the health network expanded again and now includes Holy Family Memorial, Manitowoc County's largest health care provider. In the spring of 2023 Froedtert Health and ThedaCare signed a letter of intent to start the process to combine our organizations to advance local health care for our patients and improve the health and well-being of our communities. PGY1 positions are available in acute care focus (10 residents), ambulatory care focus (4 residents), PGY1 community-based (1 resident), PGY1/PGY2 Health-system Pharmacy and Leadership (4 residents), PGY1/PGY2 Medication Use Safety and Policy (4 residents), PGY1&2 Pharmacy Informatics (2 resident). Additionally, three PGY1 resident positions are available at Froedtert Menomonee Falls, one of Froedtert's affiliated community hospitals. PGY2 positions are available in a variety of specialties including ambulatory care (3 residents), critical care (2 residents), emergency medicine (2 residents), infectious diseases (1 resident), oncology (4 residents), thrombosis and hemostasis management (NEW - 1 resident).
